PROJECT PRESERVATION CASCWA HISTORICAL REVIEW AND FOCUS ON PAST STATE PRESIDENTS

This year's CASCWA State Conference will have a big emphasis on honoring the past history of CASCWA and recognizing some of the outstanding leaders who have been state presidents of CASCWA. There are several sources for information about the history of CASCWA. There is a listing of all past CASCWA State Presidents and the official CASCWA publication the "Intercom". Also there are former state presidents like Richard Davis who are still active in the organization after many, many years of service.

In the 2009 State Conference program is a listing of all of the past state presidents of CASCWA. That list includes the first state president of CASCWA Guy M. Holt 1936-1937 through Sherman Garnett, the current 2009 state president. CASCWA has been in existence since 1936 which means 2009 is our 73rd year. Take a moment to review the names of great leaders who throughout the years have led CASCWA and established an ongoing legacy.

Much of the history of CASCWA is found in the pages of the "Intercom" which has been the official publication and bibliography of CASCWA for many years. Printed editions of the Intercom have been scanned and can be reviewed on the CASCWA web site The earliest edition that was scanned is dated for 1983. Since 1983 there has been editions published each year and every issue provides a snapshot of the development of CASCWA and the influence our organization in the world of Child Welfare and Attendance.
A great resource for understanding the history of CASCWA is Richard Davis. Rich has been involved with CASCWA since 1969, and is still an active member today. Rich has a great memory and can tell you great stories about CASCWA over the years and many of the influential past leaders of the organization. Look for Rich at this year's Conference, He will be there and will have a great story for you about CASCWA!

In addition to having a living legend in Rich Davis who has contributed a life long passion to CASCWA, there ave been a number of outstanding individuals whose hard work, foresight and great leadership skills have made CASCWA a lasting organization since 1936. Lee Lundberg was state president 1977- 1978 but had a long spanning career with CASCWA. His foresight and leadership in working with the California Legislature and keeping CASCWA in the loop on all legislation matters was legendary. Lee Lundberg set the stage for one of CASCWA's basic goals as an organization to have a focus on legislation. Many of the subsequent giants of CASCWA were all mentored or influenced by the work of Lee Lundberg. William Booth was the editor of the "Intercom" from 1986-2002. During these years the Intercom was the anchor of the entire CASCWA organization and provided a lasting record of the history of the many contributors to our success. Phil Kauble was state president from 1999-2000. Phil Kauble was the first president of the new millennium who instrumented the changes to modernize the organization to keep up with a fast changing technological world. The following are highlights from all of the CASCWA Intercoms 1983-2009 which will provide a history of the organization and information on many of our great state presidents:
