Student Recognition
Recognition of students who have realized their own success through regular attendance will once again be honored at our May Scholarship luncheon. If anyone knows of a student who is deserving of this honor, please contact Scholarship Chairperson, Alan DelSimone at 510/307-4535 or adelsimone@wccusd.net for an application and details about the scholarship program.
LEGAL BOOKS SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
Christian Barajas is the recipient of the Legal Books Scholarship Award in Bay Section. Christian comes from a second generation Mexican-American family where education has been a luxury and not a given. He will be the first one in his family to attend college.
While in high school, Christian was a member of the Health Academy, Vice-President of the Interact Club and the French Club, played in the band and sang in the choir. In fact, he sang the National Anthem at the high school graduation ceremony. In addition to his academic achievements, Christian also served in the community with the Save Our Shores Beach Cleanup, Second Harvest Food Bank and Watsonville Resident Care, to name a few.
Christian will be attending UC Santa Cruz this fall majoring in Psychology. Bay Section CASCWA member, Pete Galvan, presented the Legal Books Scholarship Award to Christian at the Watsonville High School Awards night.
Bay Section is grateful to Legal Books and Phil Kauble for making this all possible.

- As we enter the final quarter of the academic year, all of us are feeling a little weary. A great way to get re-energized is to attend Bay Section's Spring Conference. The conference will be held at the new Martinelli Conference Center at the Garre Winery in Livermore. The date is May 20, 2005 and will take place from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. Members are encouraged to attend and visitors are welcome. Possible speakers include: Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Jim Hernandez; "Beyond the Behaviors" Thomas Jewel; a Child Abduction and Abuse Prevention speaker, and of course, Joe Taylor to provide a legislative update.
- "We are the Champions": Fall Conference
- October 29, 2004 at the Embassy Suites in Milpitas
- We hosted the conference "down south" in an effort to recruit new members. This annual event featured Debbie Staub of the Casey Family Foundation. Debbie, an active advocate for all children, serves as the Education Coordinator for Casey Family Programs. Her work centers on identifying and implementing best and promising practices as they relate to improving educational outcomes for children and youth in foster care at local, state, tribal, and national levels. Our second presenter was Walt Kosta, a retired Captain with the San Rafael Police Department, who operated the Marin County Drug Task Force for several years. Walt's presentation focused on drug behaviors - identifying behaviors and dealing with them.
