RICH DAVIS SCHOLARSHIP

The "Richard C. Davis Scholarship Award" was established in 1986 by the Delta/Sierra section of the California Association of Supervisors, Child Welfare and Attendance.

Two "Five Hundred Dollar" scholarships are awarded annually to a Continuation or Alternative school graduate who is planning to continue their education in college or a vocational training school. The scholarship award was designed to recognize the resiliency of a student who has overcome personal obstacles to graduate from high school.

2008-09 Scholarship Winners

Kayla Morrissey from Butte View High school  was a 2008-2009 scholarship recipient. Kayla indicated that the inspiration to return to school and graduate came from a mini-motorcycle accident that gave her no chance for survival. After a month and a half in ICU she finally regained consciousness and started the relearning process. She could not return to regular school because she was too far behind her class. After months of home schooling she was admitted to Butte View continuation school. Her motivation was to catch up on what she had lost in the relearning process. Slowly, she began to return and finally completed the requirements to graduate.

Jennifer Pryor from Fair View High (Chico, CA) was the 2nd  winner of the 2008-2009 scholarship award.  Jennifer was given the opportunity to attend Fair View high school where she found a program that was made for her. She was very pleased with how much time the teachers took to help her and how much they really cared. She said, “ I am very pleased that the teachers made me want to become a better person and wanted me to make something of my life”.  Jennifer also stated, since starting at Fair View her grades and self esteem have sky  rocketed. Jennifer also very seriously stated, “I am now a determined young woman, I know that I have a long road ahead of me and I know it will be an uphill climb but I am willing to do it and I am determined to make it to college.”
